SPEED WORKOUTS

Monday Speed Workouts:

Weekly speed workouts are held at 5:30 p.m. at the Highland High School track or in Sugarhouse Park, except for January 18 and February 15. Please park in Sugarhouse Park on the east side, just across from the Highland High School track (2100 S. about 1600 E.). On January 18 (Martin Luther King Day) and February 15 (Presidents' Day) speedwork will be held at the Utah Olympic Oval at 5662 South Cougar Lan (4800 West ) in Kearns, UT. There is a $2.50 entry fee for the Olympic Oval.

January 4 8 - 10 x Hill - Run the hill at the southwest corner of the park.
January 11 6 - 8 x 2 minutes - 90 second recovery jog
January 18 Utah Olympic Oval - 6 - 10 x 400 meters
January 25 6 x 3 minutes - 2 minutes jog recovery
February 1 February 2 = 3 - 4 sets. 4 minutes hard/3 minute jog recovery, 3 minutes hard/2 minutes jog recovery, 2 minutes hard/90 seconds jog recovery
February 8 February 9 = 10 - 15 x 2 minutes. 90 seconds rest
February 15 February 16 = Utah Olympic Oval - 6 - 8 x 800. 2 minutes rest.
February 22 4 - 6 x 5 minutes hard. 3 minutes rest. 4 - 6 x 1200 meters with 3 minutes rest if the track at Highland High is clear of snow.
March 1 6 - 8 x 1000 meters on the track - 3 minutes rest.
March 8 3 x 1600 on the track - 4 minutes rest.
March 15 6 - 8 x 400 meters on the track - 3 minutes rest.

FUN RUNS

Fun runs are informal, non-competitive runs (or walks) open to members and their guests. Non-members are welcome, but are asked to join the Club if they plan to participate on a regular basis. There is no entry fee and no facilities are provided. Runners just arrive, socialize, run (or walk), and usually go out to eat afterwards. The basic distance can be altered to fit individual needs. Wednesday Evening Fun Runs, 6:00pm:

Fun runs are held at 6:00 p.m. at Highland High School (2100 S., 1700 E.). Meet at Highland High School north parking lot, 2100 S. 1700 E

Beginning October 10th, training runs are held on Saturday mornings at 9:00 a.m. at rotating locations as listed below.

Sat – January 30 Winter Series 5K Great Saltair (I-80, exit 104, 10 miles west of SLC airport). No Fun Run Race starts at 10 am.
Sat – February 6 *Liberty Park 700 E. 1300 S. Meet in the northern parking areas east of the central park area, parallel to 700 E.
Sat – February 13 Winter Series 10K Great Saltair (I-80, exit 104, 10 miles west of SLC airport). No Fun Run Race starts at 10 am.
Sat – February 20 Cottonwood Regional Park Meet in the northeast parking lot off 1300 E. and 4500 S.
Sat – February 27 Winter Series 15K Great Saltair (I-80, exit 104, 10 miles west of SLC airport). No Fun Run Race starts at 10 am.
Sat – March 6 State Capitol Meet along the east side of East Capitol Boulevard.
Sat – March 13 *Park City Meet in Maxwell’s (restaurant) parking lot; 1456 New Park Blvd. Take 1-80 east to the Park City exit (#1450). Head south, turn left on Red Stone; take 2nd left onto Highland.
Sat – March 20 South Jordan River Parkway Meet at 5400 S. just WEST of the traffic light at 1000 W. (Taylorsville Millrace Park, on west side of river)
Sat – March 27 *Storm Mountain Park 11400 S. and 1000 E.
Sat – April 3 Wasatch Running Center 8946 S. State St. Meet in the Parking lot. (Store will be opened early to buy running items at a discount).
* These runs are part of the annual Winter Breakfast Series. Club members have agreed to host participants at their residences after the run to enjoy conversation, camaraderie, and food. Participants are asked to bring juice, bagels, pastries, fruit (or something similar) to share.

Predict your run: During this run a course is laid out each person (who chooses to participate) starts out with no watch and puts a $1 in the pot the person who predicts the time they will run the course in, the closest without going over wins the pot.

Sunday Morning Runs:

On most Sundays, a small group meets for an informal fun run. All runs begin promptly at 8:00 a.m. Meet at the Highland High School north parking lot, 2100 S. 1700 E. Attendance is variable. Distance (generally ranging from 5-8 miles) and pace depend on the group.

Runners participating in fun runs or other SLCTC events are expected to have a signed waiver on file with the Membership Committee. If you need additional information, contact the Board at slctrack@xmission.com.
